For our anniversary weekend, we decided to treat ourselves and go to London to visit our friends Dave and Fiona. We met Dave and Fiona in Vietnam on a cruise in Halong Bay. We met them again a couple of weeks later in Saigon and then again in Cambodia. We had a great time with them every time. Here is us in Cambodia:
We flew to London on Thursday night and Fiona came to pick us up at Heathrow. Noah took a liking to England right away and was giggling the whole car ride home. He had a great time playing with Fiona and Dave the whole weekend.
On the Thursday night, Dave and Fiona treated us to a typical British meal of steak pies – they were great! The next day, we took the train in to London and went on a hop-on hop off bus tour all day. It was great, we got to see a lot of things and learn from the commentaries. Noah was great as every time we were on the bus, he had a nice nap. Around lunchtime, we found a pub near Big Ben for all three of us to have lunch. Noah was pretty upset he could not get a pint:
After lunch, we went to a park for Noah to play for a while, right beside the parliament building and the Thames – pretty sweet location. We then went back on the bus for another nap (for Noah that is). We also went for a nice cruise on the Thames. Noah really enjoyed the cruise:
We took the train back and Dave picked us up. That evening, we had fish and chips at home – Miam-Miam!
The next morning, Fiona and Dave cooked us a traditional British breakfast. It was delicious. We then set off to London. We had a fantastic day. The weather was great and we had great tour guides. We got out at Waterloo station and walked along the South Bank which is a wonderful artsy area along the Thames. We had to make a pit stop in a park, another “cacastrophe”. Instead of Shakespear in the Park it was ShakesPoop in the Park. Fiona and Dave did not seem too traumatized.
We then stopped at Tate Modern which is a Museum of Modern Art. A lot of the Museums in London are free which is great. After the museum, we stopped for a drink at a famous pub called The Anchor which was built in 1615. Fiona and Marj had Pimm’s Lemonade which is a famous British drink and the boys had a pint of London Pride.
We went through Borough Market, a very nice food market. Up next was Camden Town and Camden Stables Market which was a great area. Finally we went to Leicester square where all the Shows and Premieres are. We walked through Covent Market which is a super cool and cute area. We made our way back to Waterloo crossing the Thames on the new Jubilee Bridge with has great view on Big Ben and the parliament at Sunset.
All in all, we walked for 7 hours! We went home to some great Indian food and had a great time playing cards (a game called Shithead).
Sunday, our last day in London, we relaxed and went for a great lunch of traditional Sunday Roast at a very quaint pub. We then went for a nice walk along the Thames.
It really was a fantastic weekend. Dave and Fiona were amazing hosts. Thanks again guys!
